Congratulations on preparing to launch your new website. The website launch process is the culmination of hard work between your team and JSMT Media. Our goal during the launch process is to make the transition to your new website as seamless as possible.
Our preferred setup is to utilize Cloudflare as your DNS management system. For most web launches, a free account is more than adequate for our purposes.
WP Engine Best Practice Guide | WP Engine Pointing a domain
Preferred Setup
WP Engine recommends configuring your DNS to point at your WP Engine hosted website via CNAME record. This will ensure that your website does not go offline if the IP address associated with your website changes or WP Engine moves your site to another internal server. We take care of this technical process at no additional charge during our launch process. We are happy to collaborate with your IT Team, and welcome any input or support during this process.

Alternative Setup
If you don’t want to utilize Cloudflare or a CNAME record to point your domain
WP Engine recommends pointing your domain via a CNAME record; many DNS Providers do not offer the ability to place a CNAME record at the root domain level. In this case, you will have to point to your WP Engine hosting environment via a more traditional A record setup.
Keep in mind that WP Engine utilizes dynamic IP addresses for their servers. If you utilize an A record, you may have to update the IP address of the A record if the server’s IP changes in the future.
If you prefer to point your domain name via an A record, Let us know prior to launch and we will provide you with an IP address for your hosting environment.
