What are Google Local Service Ads?
Google Local Services ads allow customers to find and connect with nearby high-quality providers that can meet their servicing needs. This is a great way to narrow down the large array of Google search results so that your audience is able to find your local business quicker.
This tool is especially handy for service providers like plumbers, electricians, pest control services, etc. They provide quick, efficient, and upfront results. When customers need help quickly, it’s the perfect solution.
These ads rank on positive reviews and proximity to the searcher, and they are also pay per lead rather than pay per click. This means that you will be able to bid on a per lead basis rather than paying for clicks that don’t turn into engagements.

Benefits of Google Local Service Ads
- Pay Per Lead, Not Per Click!
Local service ads are pay per lead (PPL) – not pay per click. Many PPC advertisers know the pain of paying for a click that doesn’t convert or isn’t targeted towards the right audience. So, the good news is that advertisers will only pay when there is a lead, which means someone is already interested in your service and is more likely to convert.
- Show Off Your Positive Reviews
Each Google Local Service ad provides customers reviews & ratings which will help you earn the searcher’s trust. The higher your reviews are, the higher your service will rank on local service ads. That’s why it’s important to get as many positive reviews as possible, and respond appropriately to negative reviews.
- Confidence: The Google Guarantee
The Google Guarantee mark is placed directly under the reviews & ratings. This shows that the business passed a google screening and qualification process through local service ads. Google Guarantee protects customers that weren’t satisfied by jobs booked through local service ads with a lifetime coverage amount of $2,000 (in the US).
- Drive More Visibility & Leads
Local search ads appear at the very top of the page, which can provide more visibility than paid search ads. Studies have shown that when local search ads show in search results, they can receive about 13.8% of clicks! If you are a business that can highly benefit from these ads, you could be missing out on almost 14% of potential leads if you are not already implementing local search ads into your digital marketing plan.
- Control Who You Target & When
Google LSAs allow you to specifically target individuals who might be interested in your services. Upon setting up your profile, you’re able to narrow down on exact cities and zip codes where you want your ads to be placed. These ads will only show up for people who live in these specific areas. Google gives you the ability to update your ads whenever you want, change locations, as well as pause any ads if they are getting no leads or too many. One of the best features of Google LSAs is if you happen to pause your ads, they are still eligible to show. But, you will not be charged for any leads that appear while your ads are paused.

How to Create a Google LSA
Google Local Services ads are only available for certain industries, most of which are listed above. For a full list of industries, click here, or to see if your business is eligible for LSAs, click here to confirm your business type and location. If Google doesn’t offer LSAs for your industry yet, that’s okay! Google is constantly expanding their services, so be sure to sign up so you can be notified when they are available for your business.
If you’re already eligible for Google LSA’s, you will be guided to create an account. Since LSAs are separate from Google Ads, you will need to create a completely separate account.
Then, start creating your business profile. Your profile will determine who finds your listing, so make sure you are as specific as possible about your services and business. You’ll want to add basic information like the name of your business and details for contacting. Next, start adding details about the services you offer, any pricing, and the cities/zip codes you service.
Quick note: Even if you are registered for other Google services, like Google My Business, you will still have to create a separate account for local service ads.
You will then be directed to submit any relevant paperwork, like a license to work in the specific industry or any qualifications. This is how you will achieve the Google Guarantee mentioned earlier. Lastly, you will need to complete a free background check. If you live in the U.S or Canada, you and all of your employees will need to participate in the background check.

Stay on Top of Your Listing
Now you’re ready to display your listing! Google LSA’s are extremely beneficial, and something that should be taken advantage of if your business is eligible. Keep an eye on how the ads are performing, and if any changes need to be made they can be with a few simple clicks.
